PBA Alumni celebrate their engagement

PBA high school sweethearts Ryan Hashimoto ’18 and Sarina Noma ’17, are celebrating their recent engagement and planning to have their wedding in Hawaii next year. Ryan and Sarina began dating at PBA in 2016 after being introduced by classmate Megan Sakata.

After graduating, Ryan went on to attend California State University at San Marcos and major in criminology and justice studies. He became a founding father of Theta Chi’s Kappa Lambda chapter and enlisted in the California Army National Guard. He received his commission as a Second Lieutenant, active-duty Army.

Sarina majored in international relations specializing in peace and security studies at University of California, Davis. There, she joined the school’s student-run taiko group, Bakuhatsu Taiko Dan. Sarina is currently in Tokyo at the Japan Society of Northern California as a Program Coordinator/Social Media Specialist. She is also an intern at the U.S.-Japan Council under the Japanese American Storytelling Program. “I love the neighborhood I currently live in since it’s right in the center of the city and within walking distance to the Sumida River with a great view of the Tokyo Skytree,” said Sarina. “After one year here, I plan to move to Fayetteville, North Carolina where Ryan will be living.”

Although they are temporarily apart now, Ryan and Sarina both agreed that one of their favorite memories together was their recent trip to Las Vegas. “We both enjoy the city lifestyle and we also got to explore the outdoors when a friend took us out on a boat ride to Lake Mead,” Ryan said.

Sarina and Ryan got engaged in December 2021 in Coronado, California. “Even though I had friends help me plan the day of the engagement, I was still a bit nervous. Fortunately for me, Sarina said yes!” Ryan said. “I’m really thankful for how hard Ryan worked on the proposal and I’m excited to be starting a new chapter in my life with him!” Sarina said.

PBA wishes Ryan and Sarina a happy engagement and lifetime of laughter and love.
